Easter is a Christian festival, but all around the world it is a time to celebrate new beginnings and the changing landscape. It is a time for fun family activities, for things like decorating eggs and searching for treats (and chocolate!) hidden around the house and garden. This year, we have focused on one theme and one thing only: EGGS!
For centuries, eggs have been a symbol of new life. Many cultures decorate them to celebrate spring, while others put decorated eggs into the tombs of their loved ones and important leaders. Eggs of all kinds have been turned into works of art. There are egg-decorating traditions around the world that are associated with different beliefs. For example: In Greece, Easter eggs (or Kokkina Avga) are dyed a dark, striking red in accordance with the Greek Orthodox Christian tradition.
